I Graduated from SCAD!

A personal note from Samantha on graduating from SCAD with a B.F.A. in Fashion Design and a minor in Bridal and Eveningwear.

I graduated from SCAD!

A little late in saying it here, but I finally crossed the finish line. I received my B.F.A. in Fashion Design and a minor in Bridal and Eveningwear from SCAD, magna cum laude.

I could give a whole TED Talk on my experience in SCAD Fashion Design and motherhood. For now, I will just say this: motherhood does not hinder life. In fact, caring for a child propelled me to become a more time-efficient and dedicated student.

There is nothing like having limited time to teach you how to use it. I learned how to sketch faster, make decisions faster, sew with more focus, and stop waiting for ideal conditions before getting to work. If I had thirty minutes, I used thirty minutes. If I had one quiet nap window, I treated it like gold.

God has awarded me the most fulfilling career, one that will have a longer legacy than my designs are sure to produce. Becoming a mother while studying fashion did not make my work smaller. It gave it more purpose.

I am forever grateful to the professors, mentors, family members, and friends who helped me cross the finish line. Fashion school is already demanding. Fashion school with motherhood in the middle required a whole support system.

And because the real behind-the-scenes deserves credit too, shout out to:

SCAD shaped the way I think about fashion, but motherhood shaped the way I work. Together, they clarified what I want Samantha Covey to become: a brand for women whose real lives, convictions, families, ceremonies, and standards deserve to be taken seriously.

Graduation feels like both an ending and a beginning. I am proud of the work that brought me here, and I am even more excited for the work ahead.
